Monday Meet Up #5

It's time for the Monday Meet Up Linky with the bloggers over at The Teaching Tribune.
The "assignment" was to list three things that you are thankful for. They can be light-hearted or heart-felt. I think mine are both!!
So, here goes!

{ 1 }

The "UNDO" Button on the Computer

I am thankful for the "undo" button on our computers. Can I get an "Amen!" for that?! I say out loud OFTEN how thankful I am for that thing...even if no one can hear me.

{ 2 }

My Family

I am thankful for my husband and my daughter. My husband is ever so kind and a teacher also! I am thankful that we get to spend summers together. Also, he understands "where I am coming from." He is my voice of reason. My daughter is fun to be around because she makes me laugh...most of the time!

{ 3 }

My "Coffee"

I am also thankful for Diet Coke. I know that it is really not good for me. It is my coffee. I have cut back lots in the last year or so. As a matter of fact, the boxes come in handy too! Check back on Thursday to see my throwback post about organizing in the classroom with fridge pack boxes. You may think it is awesome too!

Disclaimer: I got the idea from Pinterest, but I have no idea to whom I should give credit. If it is you, or you know who it is, would you please let me know so that I can give that person credit for that brilliant idea? (Be your best friend...)

Hop over to the Monday Meet Up group to meet some bloggers and find out three things that they are each thankful for.

Have a great day!

Worksheet Wednesday Linkup {FREEBIE} - Week 4

Today I am linking up with The Teaching Tribune for Worksheet Wednesday! For Week 4, there are free Summer worksheets listed.

Here is an expanded form worksheet that you might like to use. It has 3-digit numbers on it, so it would be good for second grade or for review at the beginning of third grade.

Click here to download it.

This practice page will remind your students how to write out the expanded form of 3-digit numbers. The repetition will help as well as the lines and the operation signs. This scaffolded page will develop confidence in your students for writing numbers in the expanded form.

This page is formatted after the Scoot answer pages that are in my Monthly Math Task Card sets. If this page was helpful to you, then you may be interested in checking out the full sets of Write It! 3 Ways in Three Days. These provide fun opportunities to practice three different forms of number representation.

I have {two} 3-digit sets posted now that would also be helpful for second grade or for review at the beginning of third grade.

This is a "brain-break" way to provide the repetition of skills in a FUN setting!

Look for new sets to come out for each month. The months that are highlighted are complete.

Check 'em out in my store...
                             ...if you are wantin' some more!

Monday Meet Me Linky

It's time for the Monday Meet Me Linky with the bloggers over at The Teaching Tribune.

The "assignment" was to list three unknown facts about yourself.
So, here goes!

{ 1 }

Tap Dancing Lessons

I took tap dancing lessons as an adult, with adults, at the same dance studio that I attended as a child and teen. It was SO much fun! They even talked me into performing in the recital. That was way more nerve-wracking than I remembered it being. Then, I ended up taking lessons for 3 MORE YEARS. Well, my daughter was taking lessons and I didn't want her to have all of the fun!

Also, one of my teachers for three of those years was Jeremy K., the first American to join the Australian dance group, The Tap Dogs. He taught us the hoofing style. Now THAT was fun!!!

Do you remember the opening ceremonies of the Olympics when it was held in Australia? A HUGE group of dancers performed a tap dance routine in the hoofing style. VERY COOL!

{ 2 }

My Favorite Book

My favorite book as a child was The Guinness Book of World Records. I often informed my family with lots of little-known facts. As a matter of fact, I got to order the updated version each year through the Scholastic Book Clubs. It was ever so exciting!

{ 3 }

My Favorite Pet

My favorite pet is a cat. I love those little guys! I enjoy the challenge of getting a cat to "warm-up" to me...like the cat that came with our house. (It reminds me of that book, He Came with the Couch.)

It wasn't as odd as it seems. You see, Mom and Dad were moving from the house when we moved in. Mom was not sure if Kittnin would make it at the new location so she left the cat with us. (My husband reluctantly agreed.) Kittnin was not much of a house cat and was pretty cranky. It may have been in her genes because I hear that cats with the  tortoise shell coloring tend to be a bit ornery. She certainly softened up as the years went by, seven to be exact, but she was never as sweet and cuddly as most cats that we had growing up.

So, since I won't be able to get another cat for a while, I have been stocking up on cat clip art so that I can add them to all kinds of things for my classroom. I will try to keep it under control since LOTS of people are dog-lovers and not cat-sympathizers. I can respect that...

So now you know three tidbits of info about me that will probably mold your opinion of me into QUITE a complex person. You never know what you might find out next, so stay tuned!

Hop over to the Monday Meet Me group to meet some bloggers and find out three interesting things about each of them. The posts that I have read so far have been entertaining!

Have a great day!

Sunday Smorgasbord Linky: June 22, 2014

Today I am linking up with Michelle at Fabulous in First for a Sunday Smorgasbord.

{ 1 }

I love Scoots!

Scoots are...
       1. brain-breaks
                  {They are up-and-out-of-your-seat activities.}
       2. great for "fun" repetition of skills practice
                  {The students don't even realize how much practice they
                     are doing for each skill that is highlighted. }
       3. fast-paced (or not) depending on the student
             {The teacher is able to focus on the students who need
                     assistance or encouragement while the students who
                     do not need support can keep moving.}
       4. differentiated ~ time-wise and recording sheet-wise
              {All of the students can participate in the same game,
                      but with different scaffolding on the answer sheets
                      according to their needs.}

The repetition of specific skills during one game is fabulous to me! So...I decided to make some. Here is my newest Math Task Card Pack. Click here to check it out in my store.

I call them, "Write It! 3 Ways in 3 Days" because the students write a form of the number on the task cards one way one day,
                      then another way on another day,
                                and
                      finally a third way on a different day.
{The 3 days do not need to be in a row.}

I especially like activities for representing 3-digit and 4-digit numbers. I made an Easter Egg Scoot "Hunt" in the spring. The September set that I just posted that has cute apples on the task cards.

(Maybe I just made this activity to use those cute apple graphics from Ashley Hughes. It is hard to say.)

I am big on printing things in grayscale onto colored card stock. However, I made a version with colored graphics for the printing enthusiasts who have color printing options.

There are previews of some of the recording sheets below.

There are 3 levels of support for the Expanded Form versions of the recording sheets. Therefore all of the students can be participating in the same game, but with different scaffolding on the answer sheets according to their needs.

I have included these anchor charts for the word form of lots of numbers. They are good resources for my ELL's to see the patterns of how numbers are written in the English language. Also, they are helpful anchor charts for the students to put in their math notebooks or folders for reference ... spelling in particular.

{ 2 }

My Colored Card Stock Collection

Love the colors!

Here is the brand and info in case you "need" to stock up on card stock.

Now I need to start printing away... ...on my grayscale setting, of course.

{ 3 }

I Need a Great Colored Printer

Does anyone have any suggestions? I would love to hear your recommendations. My current colored printer does not provide vibrant results. {Now there is another good reason for me to use grayscale.}

{ 4 }

A Day at the Beach

One glorious day! So thankful for at least one.

My adorable husband.

Our daughter was at a nearby beach with some friends celebrating their recent graduation from high school. I CANNOT be that old!!
The big day!

We were at the beach for two days, actually, due to scheduling conflicts. The weather was rainy on the first day, so we went to one of our favorite restaurants, Tommy Bahama's Grill. They have really good fish tacos. If you haven't taken the plunge to try fish tacos, I highly recommend them. The name sounds odd, but they taste fabulous!

{ 5 }

Spanish Class

I am taking Spanish 1 this summer through the ESOL/Foreign Language Department in our county. It may help me with communicating with my ELL students and their parents. That is my plan anyway! I better go get busy studying!!

So there are my random thoughts for the week.

Link up with Michelle's Sunday Smorgasbord to find out what random things people have to say this week.

Have an awesome week!

Worksheet Wednesday Linkup {FREEBIE} (On Thursday)

Today I am linking up with The Teaching Tribune for Worksheet Wednesday! For Week 3, there are free ELA worksheets listed.

Here is a contraction worksheet that you might like to use. It is a sample of a larger pack, so that you can see if you could use something like that in your plans.

The graphics seem to break up the "work" so the students don't feel like they are working TOO hard. :-) It is also a great activity to add to sub plans. The students like coloring in those cute graphics as well. Click here to download it.

If you would like to check out the whole "kit and caboodle," click here.

Two for Tuesday - Week 3 & FREEBIE

It's TWO for TUESDAY!

Hi!
I am linking up with The Teaching Tribune for their Two For Tuesday Linky - Week 3

That means that
  2 items
from my store will be 50% off today!!!

Here are previews of the items I have on sale:

The Plural Noun Song Pack

Need a fun way to remind the students of certain rules that they must follow when making nouns plural? This may be the resource for you!

The Plan

I sing this original song with my students to the tune of "Jingle Bells." Who doesn't love Jingle Bells?

Later, when your students need to be reminded of a rule for making a word plural, you can just remind them of the corresponding line of the song.

Then the student will all of the sudden repeat the line in a sing-song voice which will in turn cue the rest of the class to join in as well. A spontaneous song session! What could be happier than that?

There is a preview below of all of the resources that are included. Here is the link if you would like to check it out in my store.

My other sale item:

{Even though it is summer here, it is winter elsewhere on the globe. So...for all of you bloggers who are in the midst of winter, you may like to check this out.}

Pile on the Winter Fun! Bundle

A snowman craft with activities for contractions, possessive nouns, and adjectives.
This set also includes a writing activity. What more could you want?

If you would like to check it out, today is the day! Click here to see it in my store.

Also, I have a freebie sample set from this pack so that you an get an idea of what is included.
